Registration:
Everyone must register their kart number. If your number has already been registered by another participant during the season, you may have to select an alternate number. No letters are allowed, unless an exception is requested from, and granted by, the series director. Number registration is good for the current racing season.
Each driver must register at the registration table, and draw a pill. In addition, each racer must bring one gallon of fuel with him/her to registration.
The minimum driver age to compete is 15 years old. If series director determines that a driver, regardless of age, would benefit from more experience, he/she may be required to start all races (heat and/or feature) at the rear until such time as the race director determines that the racer appears to be more consistent and confident with his/her machine.
Inspection:
All karts must pass through safety tech prior to racing. WKA champ kart and engine (Briggs flatheads only) rules will be in effect, unless specified below.
A Wolf Plate is mandatory.
All header pipes must be fully wrapped, with "header wrap". It is not necessary to wrap a muffler (if utilized).
All drivers must have, at a minimum, an SFI (fire-rated) drivers jacket, by May 1, 2008. Full fire suits are encouraged.
All karts must have clearly contrasting #’s and be easy to read. Two number panels must be hung from the upper frame rails, on both sides. Failure to do so may result in disqualification of your vehicle.
Only senior champ kart frames are allowed (no Jr. Sportsman). Although a WKA "tag" is not required for an older frame, no structural modifications are allowed from the original design. Champ kart frames must meet all other WKA specification requirements.
All karts must have a full 5-point harness (shoulder, lap and submarine belts). In addition, all champ karts must utilize arm restraints. Failure to connect the arm restraints prior to entering the racing surface may result in disqualification and/or suspension. In addition, any attempt to disconnect or loosen one, or both, arm restraints during a race may result in disqualification and/or suspension.
All champ karts must utilize a helmet net on the left side of the kart, AND a head restraint device. For more information regarding these required devices, please visit the series website at: www.desotochampkartseries.com
Line-up:
Heat races and/or feature lineups will be determined by the series race director, in collaboration with each facilities race director. When heat races are used, no inversion, a partial inversion, or a full inversion may be used to determine the feature lineup. This decision will be made at the discretion of the race director.
In the event of inclement weather, any/all scheduled events may be shortened and/or changed.
Staging:
Each track facility is different. As a result, the staging procedure for each event will be announced at each driver's meeting.
Each racer will use his/her own fuel for practice and heat race (if applicable). For the feature, each racer must bring his/her kart to the grid empty (with all fuel drained out).
Once a racer's tank has been inspected by a race official, and approval granted, he/she may fill up the tank using any of the designated fuel jugs.
Once a karter has brought his/her champ kart to staging and has fueled, he/she is not allowed to take his/her champ kart back to his/her pit area for any reason. If a racer realizes that something needs to be done to his/her kart after it has been fueled, he/she must bring his/her tools to the grid area, and work on the kart there.
Racing:
All features are 25 laps in length. The series director will announce the length of the heat races (if applicable) at the driver's meeting.
Once the champ karts leave the grid area, the track staff (flagman, track scorers with DCKS representation, corner workers, etc.) are in control of all racing action. All racers must adhere to all requests made by a track staff, regardless of whether they appear accurate or not.
Blocking is prohibited. If a determination of blocking is made by either a DCKS series official or track official, the racer will be disqualified.
Racers cannot pass below the yellow line (if one exists). If a determination is made by either a DCKS series official or track official that a racer has made a pass below the yellow line, the racer will be disqualified.
No radios (of any type) or mirrors are allowed.
If a red flag is thrown, all racers must immediately stop on the track. Racers are not allowed to unbuckle from their vehicles, unless specifically directed to do so by track staff. If crew are allowed onto the racing surface to restart the karts after a red flag, they are only allowed to pull-start the engine. If the crew takes any other actions (e.g. adds fuel, change tire pressure, make a chassis adjustment, turn carb screw, etc.), without specific direction from a track staff, the racer may be disqualified.
Once a race starts, no attempts to restart a stalled engine will be allowed. If the race has not completed one lap, and a track worker attempts to restart a stalled engine, that racer will be allowed to continue. Please note: Some tracks will not assist in restarting stalled engines. Any restart attempts will be entirely at each tracks discretion. If your motor quits, your night is over. Once the karts have left the grid, and entered the racing surface for their race, no kart will be allowed to rejoin the event, if he/she has to enter the pits for any reason. This is applicable, even if the race has not yet had an official start. This also includes during red flag periods.
If your kart loses power or you leave the racing surface during the race, you must move your kart away from the track to a safe distance without necessitating a caution to stop the race.
If a driver suffers damage which can be repaired, under the caution, via a brief attempt from a track official (e.g. side nerf can be bent away from a tire), the racer will be allowed to rejoin the feature after the repair, and restart at the tail. The racer cannot unlatch his/her 5-point harness at any time, once the karts have left the grid, for any reason, or to make any repairs, even if the driver feels that the track official's brief repair attempts were insufficient, and even if the racer pulls into the infield in an attempt to make his/her own repairs.
Once a racer leaves the track area, for any reason, he/she cannot rejoin the event. This is applicable, even if the race has not yet had an official start. If a racer leaves the track, for any reason, his/her scoring ceases.
If a crew member enters the racing area without being specifically instructed to do so by a track official, for any reason, they will be disqualified.
Scales:
At the end the feature, all designated karts (as determined by series director) must pass over the weigh scales. Failure to do so will result in a DQ. Track scales will be the official scale and no exceptions will be made on minimum weight requirements. One pound light, you will be disqualified.
If loose weight is found on the kart when it is presented in the scale area, the karter may be subject to immediate disqualification, regardless of whether the driver would meet the minimum weight requirement without the loose weight. The determination of whether the racer will be immediately disqualified, or allowed to weigh without the loose weight, will rest solely with the race director.
After weighing, designated karts (as determined by series director) will go to marked tech area. One crew person is allowed to go to kart.
Tech:
Tech inspector will conduct inspections. Karts can only leave when dismissed by Tech Inspector. Each racer or crew chief must bring tools to remove all requested parts from the engine.
Any kart may be called into tech after the feature by the race director or designee, regardless of finishing position, and without explanation. If this kart is found to be illegal, he/she will be stripped of all winnings (including any from a previous heat race) and points. In addition, if the illegal kart is deemed to have intentionally aided another kart by pushing him/her forward, BOTH karts may be subject to disqualification.
A minimal amount of silicone sealant will be allowed to reseal a welsh plug. If any silicone is found inside the carb, it will be grounds for disqualification, if determined excessive by the tech staff.
IMPORTANT: Tech will be done by the designated tech inspector(s) only. Tech inspections in the Desoto Champ Kart Series are "open", meaning any person can volunteer to observe in the tech area. Any interested parties must get the approval from the series director to serve as an observer, prior to the tech inspection beginning. Observers are not allowed to contribute (either verbally or otherwise) during the tech procedure, unless specifically approved to do so by the series director and designated tech official. All decisions will be binding and final. Only the driver, and one other person from each motor will be allowed in tear down area.
Points:
Points will be awarded as follows:
n= number of entries for an event
1st
-
200 + n
2nd
-
175 + n
3rd
-
155 + n
4th
-
140 + n
5th
-
130 + n
6th
-
120 + n
7th
-
110 + n
8th
-
100 + n
9th
-
90 + n
10th -
80 + n
Each subsequent position (11th and lower) is scored at 5 points less than the preceding position.
All entered drivers, who are not dq'd at either the scale or tech, will receive at least a minimum number of points that correspond with the number of entries. (e.g. If 30 drivers enter, all entered drivers who are not dq'd at either the scale or tech would receive at least 30 points).
A driver who enters an event, but is unable to start the feature for any reason, will still be awarded entry points (equal to the number of entries).
If a driver is dq'd in tech for any reason, including refusal to participate in and/or to complete tech, he/she will be credited with a zero (see Welsh Plug note below). This "zero" will not be eligible to be used as a season drop.
Welsh Plug: The loss of a Welsh Plug during the feature will result in a disqualification. However, if this is the sole reason for the disqualification, the driver will be allowed to use that race as a season drop. NOTE - A driver must still present his/her kart in the tech area, even if he/she has lost the Welsh Plug. Only after the tech official has verified that the Welsh Plug is missing will the kart be released, and the droppable disqualification assessed. If a driver doesn't submit his/her kart to tech, and later claims it was due to a missing Welsh Plug, he/she will NOT be allowed to use that race as a drop.
If a driver is dq'd at the scale for being light, by more than five pounds under the minimum (e.g. weighs 404 or less), he/she will be credited with a zero. This "zero" will not be eligible to be used as a season drop.
If a driver is dq'd at the scale for being light, by five pounds or less under the minimum (e.g. weighs 405 or more), he/she will be credited with a zero. This "zero" will be eligible to be used as a season drop.
Rainout points will not be given, unless the race director determines that no options for reschedule exist.
Each series allows a pre-determined amount of drops. If you miss a race, you may use that towards your drop(s).
Protest:
Only the driver may protest another kart. You must have competed in the same race and finished behind kart being protested.
Protest must be made to the series director within 5 minutes following race and prior to leaving scale area and money must be presented at that time. If you protest, you must tear your motor down also, regardless if the protested kart is legal or illegal.
Protest fee $100.00. If protested kart is legal, protested kart gets $75, tech official gets $25. If protested kart is illegal, Protester gets their money back.
Race Director has the right to refuse a protest if considered harassment or excessive.
Conduct:
This is a family sport and environment. Alcohol, drugs, threats and fighting are strictly prohibited. Infractions may lead to probation, suspension or more severe penalties.
Any abuse of track officials and/or series officials or volunteers, verbal or physical, may result in suspension from the series. Depending on severity of the incident, suspension may be indefinite and criminal charges applied.
Anyone on suspension will not be allowed to compete in any events with the series, regardless of which track the infraction occurred at.
DCKS variance from WKA rules:
1. Open tire rule
2. Open pipe rule (mufflers are optional)
3. FKA carb allowed
4. Minimum weight with driver is 410 pounds, as weighed following race.
5. Minimum seat height not enforced.
6. No WKA "tag" required for older champ kart frames. However, no structural modifications are allowed from the original design. Frame must meet all other WKA dimension and specifications requirements, and be deemed safe by the race director.
7. Two number panels must be hung from the upper frame rails, on both sides.
8. All header pipes must be fully wrapped, with "header wrap". It is not necessary to wrap a muffler (if utilized).
9. All racers must use a 17-tooth front driver. The driver must be in unaltered condition, as received from the manufacturer. No modifications or alterations, of any kind, are allowed to the driver.
10. A minimal amount of silicone sealant will be allowed to reseal a welsh plug on the outside of the carb only. If any silicone is found inside the carb, it will be grounds for disqualification.
11. All drivers must have, at a minimum, an SFI (fire-rated) drivers jacket, by May 1, 2008. Full fire suits are encouraged.
12. If a driver is dq'd in tech for any reason, including refusal to participate in and/or to complete tech, he/she will be credited with a zero. This "zero" will not be eligible to be used as a season drop. (See exception for Welsh Plug noted above).
13. If a driver is dq'd at the scale for being light, by more than five pounds under the minimum (e.g. weighs 404 or less), he/she will be credited with a zero. This "zero" will not be eligible to be used as a season drop.
14. Helmet Net and Head Restraint Device required.
The Desoto Champ Kart Series utilizes many WKA rules, but is not a sanctioned series. All decisions made by the series are final and binding, and in no way are governed by WKA or any other sanctioning body.
